How does Cefoxitin work?

Cefoxitin is from a family of medicines called the beta-lactam antibiotic. This type of antibiotic binds to penicillin-binding proteins called transpeptidases. After binding to PBPs, its actions prevent PBPs from forming the cross-linkages between the peptidoglycan layers in the bacterial cell wall, interfering with cell wall synthesis. Cefoxitin is a bactericide that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.
