Alimemazine Tartrate is used for treating pruritus or an itchy, urticarial, a form of lumpy rash caused by hives or pinkish itchy swellings on the skin. It has is taken orally, exactly as recommended by the doctor. Be careful to avoid the syrup from coming into contact with any part of your skin as it can cause skin redness, swelling and itching. While taking this medication, if the effect of your medicine is too weak or too strong consult your doctor before changing the dose. The recommended adult dose for itching or an itchy lumpy rash is to use the medicine of 10mg, two to three time a day. The dose is same for Elderly, with dose limited to only two times a day. And for Children over 3 years of age, only the Alimemazine Tartrate 7.5mg/5ml Syrup should be used and the dose for children is set at 2.5 to 5 mg three or four times each day. When being used as a sedative before general anaesthesia for Children aged between 3 and 7 years, the maximum dose is 2 mg per kg of bodyweight and is given 1-2 hours before the procedure.
