Dimetindene is a potent antipruritic antihistamine that is a selective H1 antagonist, used in the symptomatic treatment of insect bites and sunburns. Its primary form Dimetindene is used for curing allergic reactions like urticaria, allergies of the upper respiratory tract like perennial rhinitis and hay fever, in curing food, and drug allergies, some pruritus, insect bites. Dimetindene Maleate is sold as gel, emulsion, drops as well as a syrup that particularly for use in children. One teaspoonful syrup contains 5ml of the drug that is equal to the 0.5mg Coated tablets. The standard recommended dosage for adults is 3-6 tablets. The standard dose varies by age, where if taking the Drops, the dose for Infants up to 1 year is 10-30 drops, for Infants of 1 to 3 years age the dose is 30-45 drops, in treating Children over 3 years, the dose recommended is 45-60 drops and for Adults, the dose is 60-120 drops. If using the Syrup, the standard dose for infants up to 1 year is 1-3 teaspoons and for Infants of 1 to 3 years, the dose is 3-4 teaspoons.
