ERYTHROMYCIN ETHYLSUCCINATE

Erythromycin ethylsuccinate is a broad-spectrum, topical macrolide antibiotic with antibacterial activity and the Ethylsuccinate salt form of erythromycin. Erythromycin is used in the treatment of a range of infections, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria-caused infections. It also reduces the development of drug-resistant bacteria while maintaining its effectiveness of E.E.S., and other antibacterial drugs. E.E.S. is only when the infections are strongly suspected to be bacteria caused. Erythromycin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic drug made by straining Saccharopolyspora erythraea. It belongs to the same class of antibiotics such as Azithromycin, Clarithromycin and others. EES is basic and readily forms salts with acids. Brand names: Erythromycin Ethylsuccinate is commonly sold under the brand name Ilotycin, PremierPro RX Erythromycin, and Romycin among others. Robert L Bunch and James M Mcguire of Eli Lilly and Co first discovered it in 1952 and was granted the FDA license in 1953, which expired in 1970. The current assignee is also Eli Lilly and Co.

Dosage and administration

Erythromycin Ethylsuccinate is sold for administration in various forms, including intravenous, topical, and eye drops. EES as an ester is also suitable for oral administration. The recommended dose for adults is 400 mg of EES, taken 6 hours. It can be increased by 4 g per day depending on the severity.

The Price of Erythromycin Ethyl succinate:

In the USA, the consumers have paid an average cost of $232.99 for one bottle of 100ml of 200mg with 5ml each of the generic erythromycin ethyl succinate. In India, the cost of the 10 mg ointment is sold for USD 0.20.

How does Erythromycin Ethyl succinate Work?

Erythromycin inhibits protein synthesis by binding 50S ribosomal subunits of susceptible organisms without affecting the synthesis of nucleic acid. It diffuses through the bacterial cell membrane where it reversibly binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome preventing bacterial protein synthesis. Erythromycin ethylsuccinate shows either a bacteriostatic or bactericidal action based on the concentration used at the site of infection or susceptibility of the organism involved.
