Erythropoietin Alfa

Erythropoietin is a therapeutic agent used in treating anemia resulting from chronic kidney disease and myelodysplasia, from the treatment of cancer like chemotherapy and radiation. It is produced by recombinant DNA technology in mammalian cell culture. It treats anemia by increasing the red blood cell count in people with long-term serious chronic kidney failure, or people getting treated for HIV with zidovudine, and chemotherapy for cancer that does not involve the bone marrow or blood cells. Erythropoietin Alfa is given to anemic patients to reduce the need for blood transfusions before some kinds of planned surgeries with a high risk of blood loss Epoetin alfa actions amek the bone marrow produces more red blood cells.
