This medication is available in dosage form of Injection (powder for solution, lyophilized powder for solution), and is available in dosage strengths of 50 mg, 50 mg/5mL which is administered through intravenous route by healthcare professionals. Tigecycline injection is supplied in a single dose of 5 mL glass vial or 10 mL glass vial in a box containing 10 vials. Before using this medication, the risk of taking the drug must be weighed against the benefits it provides. It is always recommended to consult a physician before taking tigecycline as this medication may interact with other drugs and health problems. The usual recommended dose of Tigecycline injection is an initial dose of 100 mg, followed by 50 mg twice a day. Tigecycline injection should be administered intravenously over approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
For the treatment of complicated skin and skin infections or for complicated intra-abdominal infections, tigecycline treatment duration is 5 to 14 days and for community-acquired bacterial pneumonia the treatment duration is 7 to 14 days. To have the maximum effect, it should be used at evenly spaced time and the medication should be taken at the same time every day, and tigecycline should be used even if the symptoms disappear and one must continue until the full prescribed dose is finished. In patients with severe hepatic impairment, the initial dose of tigecycline 100 mg is administered followed by a reduced maintenance dose of 25 mg twice daily. Tigecycline injection should be stored at room temperature not exceeding 25° C (77° F) for a day once it is reconstituted. Before reconstitution, tigecycline should be stored at 20° C to 25° C (68° F to 77° F).
